The sequential one-course-at-a-time structure makes a pause easier to arrange than in a program where several courses run together. There are still consequences for aid and for program status depending on length. Arrange it with an advisor rather than simply not enrolling in the next course, and ask specifically how long a gap is safe.

It costs marks directly, because participation is graded rather than assumed, and a pattern of absence can also affect enrolment status separately from the grade. The requirement is usually spread across several days rather than satisfied in one sitting, which means a busy week cannot be recovered by a long evening at the end of it.

Ask for the assessment before enrolling, since it can materially shorten the sequence.
