How many terms run in a year?

Several, because the terms are short and start frequently rather than twice a year. The practical effect is that a missed start is a matter of weeks rather than months, and also that there is very little natural pause built into the calendar. Check the specific term length for your own program, since graduate and undergraduate schedules differ.

What if I miss the first week of a term?

Address it immediately, because the opening week usually carries both graded work and an attendance record that affects your enrolment status. A short compressed term has no slack to absorb it, and the administrative consequence often arrives faster than the academic one. Contact your advisor rather than waiting to catch up quietly.

How much does a late submission cost?

It varies by course and the syllabus states the schedule, typically as a deduction that grows daily with a cut-off after which nothing is accepted. In a term this short the deduction compounds quickly. Filing something imperfect on time almost always beats filing something better two days late.

Can I skip a term without withdrawing?

Usually, and there is a proper way to do it that protects your standing, your catalogue year and your aid. Simply not enrolling is not the same thing administratively. Speak to your advisor in advance, because a planned absence is a form to complete and an unplanned one can be a readmission.

How do I know what to enrol in next?

Your advisor maintains the sequence and it is worth asking to see the whole plan rather than the next term alone. Some courses run only in certain terms and some are prerequisites for several others, so a substitution that looks harmless can push graduation. Ask for the full map early and keep your own copy of it.
